New Vs. Used Enclosed Trailers
Over the years we've seen countless ways people use their enclosed
trailers. To some their trailer is part of their "rig"
and meticulously cared for just like ones truck or motorcycle but
to others a trailer is just another tool to help them do their job
and run their business and like most with their tools, they use
it until it's worn and time to be replaced. When considering whether
or not to buy a new or a used enclosed trailer these, among
others, are serious factors you should be considering. Below are
some pros and cons to choosing new vs. used when shopping for your
next trailer.
Condition. You can always count on a new trailer being in
perfect condition but you must be careful when considering a used
trailer. Certainly there are many great deals on excellent condition
used trailers out there, but there are also used trailers that can
present problems. Sometimes the problems with a used trailer are
obvious, other times you won't catch the flaws until it's too late.
We've seen used trailers with rust issues, rotting interior wood,
bent frames and wheels, faulty or worn lighting and other issues.
If you are sure a used enclosed trailer is right for you be sure
to inspect it thoroughly before making your purchase.
Warranty. Most new trailers come with impressive factory
warranties ranging from 12 months to 5 years. This means any defect
not caused by the owner will be fixed for free by the dealer or
manufacturer. It's very rare that you will find a used trailer with
any sort of warranty but if a used trailer is less than 2 years
old it never hurts to ask.
Available Financing. It's fairly easy to get great financing
on a new enclosed trailer these days. Whether it's a small 5x8 utility
trailer or a custom built car hauler chances are a dealer can help
you arrange a financing plan that offers affordable monthly payments.
It's rare that you will obtain financing on a used enclosed trailer.
That being said sometimes a used trailer will save you enough money
that financing may not be needed.
What You Need Vs. What's Available. When you buy a used
trailer you will most likely end up buying what's available which
is not always going to be exactly what you or your business needs.
New trailers can be custom built to a buyers exact specifications
and we've seen some people do some pretty cool things with their
enclosed trailers!
So - in summary - is a new trailer better than a used trailer?
Sometimes but certainly not always. A used trailer can definitely
save you some money but when buying a used enclosed trailer be sure
to inspect it closely and know exactly what you are getting. Buying
a used trailer that's been abused or poorly maintained can end up
costing you more money in the long run!
